Triumphant first tweet-up for #MidlandsHour
Furthermore, the evening showcased some of the Midland’s leading businesses, with talks from industry experts. Julian Kettleborough, commercial director at thestudio, Tara Tomes, managing director at EAST VILLAGE., and Carl Thomas, MidlandsHour founder and owner of RugbyPrinter.co.uk, each delivered a presentation about the potential power of #MidlandsHour for growing a business following.
These speeches were followed by the traditional tweet-led #MidlandsHour: taking place every Wednesday between 8pm and 9pm, this week was no different, as attendees used the opportunity to give their newly-acquainted followers a shout-out. What’s more, the Tweet Wall app made it possible for guests to see their tweets appear in real-time on the screen, with a leaderboard even displaying the most active accounts. This #MidlandsHour was also one of the most successful, with the hashtag trending across Birmingham after accumulating 1,880 tweets from almost 600 contributors and reaching over 11million timelines.
Speaking about the success of the event, Thomas said: ‘It was fantastic to see so many people embrace the tweet-up. When you’re networking behind a screen, it’s easy to forget that the contacts that you’re making are real people, so finally being able to put faces to names (or rather Twitter handles) was great! It is the diversity of the hashtag users that makes#MidlandsHour so enjoyable and I’m pleased that the evening itself embodied this eccentric nature: it’s certainly the first networking event that I’ve been to with reptiles! I am so proud to be a part of such an eclectic and engaged community and I look forward to meeting even more participants at the next tweet-up in November.’
MidlandsHour was launched on 9 December 2012 in order to provide an online networking platform via Twitter for local businessmen and women. It has since established a loyal following of over 42,500 businesses and organisations. In 2015 alone, the hashtag generated over 82,000 tweets, incredibly reaching almost 545million Twitter timelines.
